The Daily UserScript: Remove Ads From Mixx

Today's userscript is another simple one to remove ads, this time from Mixx.com. Even if you are using Adblock Plus or something similar to block ads from being displayed at Mixx, the space where they would be still remains, this userscript will remove those spaces that that the pages at Mixx are easier to read.

The Unpleasantry:

Seeing Ads at Mixx.

The Alleviation:

Once you install the "Mixx Ads Remover" UserScript most if not all of the ads will be removed from Mixx.

The Daily UserScript: Better Mixx 'Create New Niche' Link

This userscript will create a better 'create new niche' link for Mixx.

The Unpleasantry:

Currently, when you are on the 'Community' tab of Mixx the link to create a new niche is in a 3002px box. Why it needs to be this huge, and not in the sub navigation where it belongs is beyond my understanding. Also it pushes the somewhat interesting information that is underneath it half way below the fold.

The Alleviation:

Once you install the "" UserScript the massive 3002px box that contains the 'create new niche' link is removed and the link is added to the subnavigation of the 'Community' tab of Mixx.

The Daily UserScript: Add Tags to Mixx Stories, Photos, and Videos

This userscript allows you to tag a Mixx story, photo, or video via Greasemonkey menu command which makes the process much easier.

The Unpleasantry:

Take a look at the current process of tagging a story, photo, or video on mixx.com:

  1. First, we have to find and click the "Add Tags" link.
  2. Then the tag form appears, so you have to click the text field then enter the tags, and hit enter to save.

The Alleviation:

Once you install the "Add Tags to Mixx Stories, Photos, and Videos" UserScript you have a better option to add tags on Mixx, which is:

Third Best Way to Find New Ubiquity Commands

The two best ways that I have found so far to find new Ubiquity commands are the Ubiquity In The Wild Mozilla wiki page, and there is the Ubiquity Herd. But other than these two resources there really isn't another, and you are left with using a search engine like Google. So I have created a new Mixx community for Ubiquity for anyone that wants to contribute, where everyone can find links related to Ubiquity and new commands for it. Of course there is also the ability to vote for links, tutorials, articles, etc.. so come check out the Mixx Ubiquity Community.

If you don't already use Mixx I highly recommend it, and if you have an account, then join the community and contribute by using the 'ubiquity' tag, or joining the community and adding the link to the Ubiquity Mixx community.

Some New Ubiquity Commands (Yahoo Inlinks, Mixx, Charlie Rose, BackType, Quarkbase)

This is just a quick annoucement of some new Ubiquity commands that I have written over the last week.

  • backtype: Starts a search of BackType, which allows you to do a search for a person's comments on blogs and other sites.
  • charlierose: Starts a search of Charlie Rose's Website, which is a fantastic video archive of interviews and conversations with Charlie Rose.
  • inlinks-yahoo.com: Searches Yahoo.com for the number of inlinks to the url provided, which can either be typed out, selected or copied, and otherwise the current page is selected.
  • mixx: This command gives you the Mixx (which is a lot like Digg, but better imho, for a lot of reasons I'll get in to one day) count of a provided url, and allows you to submit the page, or go to mixx to vote for or against the page.
  • quarkbase: Starts a search of Quarkbase for the domain provided.
